George Elokobi returned to SportsDirect.com park to pick up kit the club has donated to give out to children in Cameroon.
The former Latics defender is in the process of setting up a foundation in his name that helps youngsters in his home country and provides sportswear for them.
Speaking to iFollow Latics, Elokobi said: “Make no mistake about it, this is not just old football kit, it might be used, but back home in Cameroon this stuff is like brand new to the people that I’m going to hand this stuff to.
“They will cherish it, not just for a day or a month but for the rest of their lives.
“To buy an original football kit back home costs a lot of money for parents that don’t have the financial backbone to buy this kit for their kids.
“It’s very important, we don’t take stuff for granted back home. The stuff that people think isn’t useable here in the UK, is very, very much appreciated back in Cameroon.”
The kit will be sent over next year when George next visits Cameroon, and will be sent all across the country.
“It’s going to be distributed in different divisions, towns and also villages which need it the most. It changes lives, the small things you may think you don’t appreciate here are much appreciated back home so this is something I put upon myself to do.
“There’s going to be a lot of new Oldham Athletic fans in Cameroon.”
Everyone at the club wishes George and his foundation all the best and hope the donation brings happiness to as many people as possible.
