Does Arnaud Djoum deserve a new Hearts deal?

Arnaud Djoum has given Hearts hope he will sign a new deal. He’s left the door open to a possible Jambos return after the African Cup of Nations. Should he even get a new Gorgie deal though?

Speaking to the Daily Record, Djoum opened up on his future: “I have plenty of options. I could stay or I could go elsewhere. But this is not a concern for me because I am focused at the moment on having a good tournament in Egypt.

“The possibility of a transfer? I’ll think about that after the tournament. I have a proposal from Hearts about an extension and I’ve left that with my agents.

“The door has been left open for me and I will announce my decision at the end of this competition.”

Djoum shouldn’t get a new Hearts deal

He’s give them hope, but Hearts shouldn’t bother with the Cameroon international now. He’s messed the club about this summer by stalling on his future.

Craig Levein hasn’t been able to get a replacement sorted because of the 30-year-old’s indecisiveness. Djoum’s sat on this contract offer for far too long and Hearts should just pull the plug on him.

The new campaign isn’t far away. Time is running out for Levein to find a quality central midfielder. All the decent picks may get snapped up before Djoum makes his decision.

Djoum might not even decide to stay at Hearts. He still may opt for a move away. Regardless of that, if he wanted to be at Tynecastle, he would have already penned a new deal by now.

Levein has to look elsewhere now. The Cameroonian is clearly holding out for a move, with Hearts seemingly a backup. He’s a decent player on his day, but after this fiasco, Djoum shouldn’t be given a new Gorgie deal.
