Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o Fils has written an emotional message to his former Barcelona teammate Ronaldinho who is celebrating his 40th birthday in prison.
The Brazilian football legend born as Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, commonly known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho or simply Ronaldinho for the first time celebrated his birthday in prison. He was arrested by the police in Paraguay for owning an alleged fake passport as he entered the South American country.
On his special day as he celebrates his 40th birthday, Cameroon football legend sent a heartfelt birthday message to him in prison.
Eto’o did this by posting a on his Instagram page a video which he coined “Happy Birthday my brother”.
In the video, Eto’o brings out the good qualities of his former teammate while also assuring him that he is always at his disposal to help.
“Hello brother, I have no words, brother. I don’t even know what to say, we are talking to see how we can encourage you,”
“You are my brother, my friend. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I can only ask you to have strength and to pray a lot.
“I hope that all this can be solved soon, because you were frankly a good person and a good friend. From here, the black loves you very much and you can count on me for everything you need.
“What I can do, I will do. And if I can’t do it, I’ll ask a friend for the favour,” said Eto’o in the video.
The pair played together at Barcelona Eto’o winning two Champions League titles, four La Liga, one Copa del Rey and two Supercopa de Espana titles.
In July 2019, 57 properties belonging to Ronaldinho along with his Brazilian and Spanish passports were confiscated because of unpaid taxes and fines.
While in prison this March, he competed in a prison futsal tournament scoring 5 goals and assisting the other 6 as his side won 11-2 in the final.
He could face six months behind bars after his hopes of release from a fake passport rap were dashed.
Ronaldinho spending his birthday in jail is in stark contrast to the lavish bashes he held in the past.
