Indomitable Lions forward, Clinton Njie, has again decided to give back to his community, this time through football.
The striker will be the launching of the Njie Clinton End-of Year Cup, slated to kick-off on December 23.
The last time the Dynamo Moscow forward reached out to his population was earlier this year, when he donated health kits worth FCFA 7 million to the Buea Regional Hospital and the Bojongo District Hospital. This was during the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
The first edition of the Njie Clinton End-of-Year Cup will run from December 23 to 27, in Buea, Southwest Region of Cameroon, the hometown of the Indomitable Lions and Dynamo Moscow forward.
According to Njie, the aim of the football competition is “a way of giving back to my community and also to celebrate the end of the year with my fans, who have been very supportive in my highs and lows.”
Asked the reason for why this gesture, Njie Clinton said: “These are all areas where I played football at my very humble beginning. I will like to see my brothers again after so many years and, most importantly, I wanted an all-inclusive tournament with four teams. These four teams represent the four professional clubs I have represented and still represent, which include; Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique Marseille, Tottenham and Dynamo Moscow”.
Organisers of the jamboree comprise local club Presidents, coaches, former footballers and sports journalists. The competition will comprise a total of four teams from all the neighborhoods that make up the Buea Municipality.
Going by the format of the tournament, Molyko and Bonduma will form a team. Buea Town and Bokwaongo will form another team. Soppo, Tole, Long Street and Clerks Quarters will come together to form one team, while Bomaka, Muea and Mile 16 will constitute another team.
The games will be played on a knockout basis with winners qualifying for the final of the competition. Meanwhile, registration is free to all teams taking part. The four teams will have 20 players each, and without any age limit.
A cash prize of FCFA 2 million is up for grabs, plus other accompanying gifts. The four teams will be provided jerseys by the promoter of the football festival.
