Mathurin Ayek Mvomo, principal of Nguelemendouka government high school in the East region, has been suspended for supposedly embezzling money paid in as registration fees by students preparing to take the Baccalaureate examination this year.
The principal was suspended by Jean Ernest Ngallé Bibehè, Secondary Education Minister.
The principal is said to have failed to publish the tentative list of students to sit the BEPC (equivalent of GCE O level) in April, prompting a protesting in the school. Students who learned their names were not on the list despite the fact that they had paid their dues, complained to the Parent and Teachers Association PTA.
Simplice Kengne, Divisional Officer of Nguelemendouka is said to have visited the school. He reportedly authorised students whose names were not on the list to sit the examination on April 25.
The Divisional Officer, we gathered, opened an investigation into the alleged scam when the principal failed to publish the final list of students authorised to take the examination.
Missing Meyong, delegate of the secondary education ministry informed for the Upper Nyong division, informed the D.Os investigators that a total of 108 documents were missing.
The number represents students who registered to take end of course examinations organised by the Office du Baccalauréat this year. It would appear the documents ended in the principal’s lockers.
According to the ministerial sanction suspending the principal for four months, the school administrator will not be paid any salary within the suspension period.
