BONAVADA Football For Health Tourney Launched

The seventh edition of the BONAVADA Football For Health Tournament was launched recently at the Upper Bokova Presbyterian Church field.

The launching saw three games from each of the three categories taking place as the 2019 edition kicks off. During the launching, in the Under 15 category, it was Young Boys of Bonakanda that beat Young Stars of Bokova 3-1.

In the senior female category, Gentle Ladies of Bova had an easy ride over their counterpart Phoenix Ladies. Meanwhile, in the senior male category, it was Veteran FC of Bwitingi that edged Manyanga  FC of Upper Bokova 2-1.

Going by the Chief organiser, Mbua Emmanuel Mbua,   the tournament target youths across the 13 villages that make up the BONAVADA community. These villages are Bokulu,Bokwai, Bonakanda, Bonganjo, Boteva,Bova 1, Bova 2, Bwiteva, Bwitingi,Ewonda, Mwangai, Upper Bokova and Upper Bolifamba.

Speaking to the press, MbuaMbua pointed out that the objectives of the tournament are to promote unity, friendship and solidarity among youths and elderly persons across the community. It is also to detect and give exposure to football talents, create promote awareness on vital issues such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, hypertension among others.

Meanwhile, as part of activities marking this year’s edition of the tournament, the “BONAVADA Free Health Fair” shall be organising at the Integrated Health Centre Bokova on Saturday August 17. During this period, a team of medical doctors and nurses will be there to offer free consultations and laboratory tests, free medication to the population particularly the elderly.

The finally of the 7th edition of the tournament has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 18.
