HO Academy’s defensive midfielder Yann Ange Ndzie Essama was Man of The Match in his team’s 3-2 triumph over Victoria United FC on Sunday, January 26.

The 18-year-old midfield maestro was at the centre of his team’s build up in play and also made a series of interceptions to foil the game of the opposite team.

In the midfield compartment, Essama showed that he is dynamic, diminutive with relentless energy and excellent ball-winning abilities with the quality of a box-to-box midfielder.

His strong positional sense, off the ball movement, and ability to read the game singled him out in the game throught the 90 minutes of play.

This saw him running, fetching, and retrieving possession; to benefit team-mates as they build up offensive play to crack the resilient Victoria United FC back four.

With a sense of tactical awareness, intelligence, and the defensive aspect of his game which include the ability to tackle and regain possession, intercept passes, and block shots, he is also capable of playmaking from inside his own half and is an efficient passer on the counter-attack.

With just 2 minutes left to the game, the 18-year-old performed a solo action that saw his superb strike kissing the roof of the Victoria United FC net.

This earned his side a 3-2 victory over the legendary Victoria United FC aka OPOPO as they progressed to the next round of the Cuop of Cameroon playoffs in the Southwest Region.

Speaking after the game, the midfiled maestro thanked his teammates for the wonderful show they put up.

Hear him: “I want to thank my team mates,we had a very good game. In the first half we scored early but relaxed and our opponents took control of the game. We came back stronger and fought for the victory and that’s why we got it.”

He goes further to appreaciate the caliber of players their opponnets Victoria United had. “Today’s game was very different, they have quality in their team but we made enough efforts to get the victory and luckily we got it,” Essama avered.
