Some Elite One clubs in the country have started massive recruitment of players ahead of the new season. Clubs like 15 times championship winners, Coton Sport Football Club of Garoua; 2019 Cup of Cameroon winners, Stade Renard of Melong; 2017 Elite One champions, Eding Sport FC; among others, have announced new signings.
Created in 1986 and winner of 15 championship titles, Coton Sport of Garoua, on Monday, July 13, presented nine players signed by the club ahead of the new season.
After ending the last season at the second position with 46 points in 28 games, The Cottoners are already oiling the wheels for the upcoming season. The massive presentation of recruits had a goalkeeper, three centre-backs, a right-back and four midfielders.
President Fernand Sadou’s recruitment team had high profile players with six of the former Elite football captains. The list is made up of former captains of Panthère of Nde, Anye Derick Fru and Herve Ngomo; Stade Renard of Melong’s former captain, Thomas Legrand Nkuissi; former Bamboutos FC of Mbouda captain, Francis Balliang.
Other players include Ngombe Etame of Bamboutos FC of Mbouda, Youssoufia Houzaifi and Arnold Mezui Mbah from Colombe of Dja, Beyene Essama and Bile Obame of Boums FC and TKC, respectively
Stade Renard of Melong that ended the season at the 12th position with just 35 points in 28 games, also had to shop for players. Under the leadership of President Jean Kuete, seven new players were presented to the club on Tuesday, July 14. Three defenders, three midfielders and a forward were signed. These are Onana Fabrice, Francis Bikele Georges Elimbi all from Colombe of Dja; Yves Gaël Eroume from Bamboutos FC; Marrion Franck Bombok from Fortuna; Étienne Kevin Mvaebeme from Dragon de Yaounde and Lambert Moudourou from Kalasin FC in Thailand. The club had earlier replaced head coach, Bertin Ebwelle, with Gabriel Zabot.
Finishing the last season in the 10th position, Eding Sport Football Club, created in 2012 and won the championship in 2017, is looking forward to rekindling the glory.
The club recently announced the signing of 23-year-old former Bang Bullets FC of Nkambe and Colombe of Dja keeper on a free transfer. Souleyman’s heroic performance that saw him keeping eight clean-sheets in 19 appearances is what attracted his new employers.
Meanwhile, according to reports former Omani First Division League side, Al Mudhaibi Sports club winger, Gilead Awiyni Fai could return to PWD of Bamenda. Gilead Fai, brother to Indomitable Lions player, Collins Fai, left PWD of Bamenda in 2019 after making 16 appearances, providing three assists, and scoring one goal.
According to reports, some clubs like Yong Sports Academy, Bamboutos FC, Union of Douala, among others, have carried a few transfers which are yet to be made public.
With speculations that the new season could begin in September or October, more transfers could be made in the days ahead.
